Starr Symposium presents

Conversation will focus on work/life balance struggles in KC

KANSAS CITY, MO. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Starr Symposium presents “The Three Faces of Work-Family Conflict: The Poor, the Professionals and the Missing Middle” at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 9 at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, 3700 Blue Parkway, Kansas City, Mo.

The panelists will take a more in-depth look at local stories of the work/life balance struggles in the Kansas City area and briefly discuss policies that can benefit all families.

Four Kansas City community leaders will serve as panelists – Gwen Grant, president and CEO, Urban League of Greater Kansas City; Serita Belton, owner and editorial director, ShhGirl! Magazine; Cielo Fernandez, program director, El Centro and Tammy Edwards, assistant vice president and community affairs officer, Federal Reserve Bank.

Carol Hintz, UMKC associate vice chancellor for human resources, will moderate the discussion.

The free event is hosted by the UMKC Women’s Center and the UMKC Women’s Council. Tickets are required and can be reserved online at Starr Series of Conversations or by calling (816) 235-6060.

Three additional community conversations will take place from 5:45 to 7 p.m. in February, March and April, featuring panel members from the Kansas City area.
