Founders’ Week fun at Regalia Run

Under sunny skies with above-average temperatures, more than 250 people gathered Sunday for the third annual Regalia Run/Walk 5K and kids’ Kangaroo Hop at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Competitive runners and casual walkers enjoyed the course that wound through the heart of UMKC’s Volker campus. UMKC Alumni and KSHB news anchors Mike Marusarz and Rhiannon Ally announced the start and presented the awards after the race.

Age was no barrier, with the oldest competitor at age 75 and the youngest 16 months old, content to ride in a running stroller. The kids’ Kangaroo Hop concluded the activities with a fun run where the children received their own Regalia Run finisher’s medal.

The Regalia Run was one of many  activities scheduled during Founders’ Week, which started Sept. 25 and runs through Oct. 4. Founders’ Week is hosted by the UMKC Alumni Association as a way to honor and celebrate the university’s heritage and traditions. UMKC Athletics was a partner in the run.

Proceeds from the Regalia Run will go to support student scholarships for UMKC students.
