Why did you choose UMKC?

What better university experience is there than to be in the heart of the city? I get to reap the benefits of college life and still have my family at my fingertips.

How has college inspired you?

Being a first-generation college student, I’m inspired to be a voice for the voiceless through the arts and entertainment.

What word or phrase best describes you?

Mr. Personality. My personality arrives before I enter the room.

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received from a professor?

“Zach, at the end of the day, we know you have the talent to go places, but it will mean nothing without the proper education.”

Where is UMKC taking you?

To film and in front of a camera as an entertainment host. At UMKC, I’ve been able to host a lot of events. I want to be an entertainment host for a major broadcasting company, whether that means a talk show or radio host.

I was recently offered a syndicated radio show on an up-and-coming broadcast network. I started on K-ROO radio station as a disc jockey and started doing more than the show: advertising, Twitter, Instagram. I wanted to do more, so I got into events and promotions. One person I interviewed from the Conservatory passed on my information to someone in the industry and that’s how I got the recent offer to be on radio.

Most recently I had the opportunity to be a celebrity assistant in Atlanta. I’ve been on panels and — it’s supposed to be a secret — but I’m also the UMKC mascot. (Kasey). It’s OK that I’m revealing that since I’m graduating!

What motto do you live by?

Live life to the fullest. No regrets. Things are good and fun, then you trip and stumble and get dirt on your pants, but you’ve got to wipe it off and do it again.

You’ve got to place yourself in the right environment to produce the best result. I think I’ve done that at UMKC.
