MANA de Kansas City donates organizational documents to UMKC

UMKC Libraries accepts gift Nov. 18

To preserve its documentary legacy, the Kansas City chapter of MANA – a national Latina organization – is donating its organizational documents to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) LibrariesLaBudde Special Collections Department. UMKC Libraries Dean Sharon Bostick will officially accept the gift at a ceremony and reception at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18 in Room 303 of Miller Nichols Library, 800 E. 51st St., Kansas City, Mo. The UMKC Office of Diversity, Access and Equity is sponsoring the reception.

Founded in 1974, MANA is the largest national Latina membership organization. Since its founding in 1981, MANA de Kansas City has generated a substantial amount of supporting documents, photographs, records and other materials. By transferring these materials to LaBudde Special Collections, MANA de Kansas City is preserving an important piece of Kansas City history, ensuring a long-term stable environment for the collection and providing UMKC students, faculty and community researchers with access to the contents.

As UMKC establishes a Latina(o)/Chicana(o) Studies program, the availability of the MANA de Kansas City Collection will greatly enhance those efforts.
