UMKC Women’s Soccer makes history

With this week’s rankings, UMKC Women’s Soccer moved ahead of Oregon and Boise State to reach the No. 8 position in the Pacific Region by the United Soccer Coaches. Just weeks ago, USC placed the Roos at No. 10, a first ever in program history.

“Athletics is an important asset to UMKC,” said UMKC Chancellor C. Mauli Agrawal. “Our campus and community are ideally positioned for Roo Athletics to achieve great successes going forward. Having the UMKC Women’s Soccer program ranked shows that UMKC student-athletes perform competitively with their peers on the field.”

UMKC student-athletes also compete academically with their peers in the classroom.

“Our student-athletes at UMKC are students first and athletes second, and they actually live up to that,” Agrawal said in a recent interview on KCUR 89.3. The average GPA of UMKC student-athletes is 3.30. For the UMKC Women’s Soccer team, their average GPA is 3.75.

“I’m very proud of our regionally-ranked UMKC Women’s Soccer program,” said Ursula Gurney, interim director of athletics.” To be ranked alongside Stanford and other Pac-12 teams is outstanding. These student-athletes work hard on the field and in the classroom. It’s wonderful to see their efforts and dedication are rewarded with a No. 8 ranking.”

Four seniors also lead the team in all scoring categories with players receiving numerous Player of the Week honors. UMKC Women’s Soccer remains perfect in play after the Oct. 14 win over Grand Canyon University. The team travels this week to play Utah Valley on Friday, Oct. 19 before taking on Seattle University on Sunday, Oct. 21 in the final road contest of the year.
