Huge Weekend for Roo Athletics

Conference champions in women’s soccer, men’s cross country

UMKC student-athletes enjoyed a very successful weekend to close out October, winning Western Athletic Conference championships in women’s soccer and men’s cross country.

The women’s soccer team completed an undefeated regular season Oct. 28 with an 8-0 win over Chicago State, securing an outright WAC championship.

That same day, the men’s cross country team won their second consecutive conference title at the WAC Championships in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Head coach Shameika McField also collected her second-straight WAC Cross Country Coach of the Year honor, and the women’s team took third place in the conference.

Also on Saturday, the volleyball team – playing on Senior Day – closed out its home schedule with a hard-won victory over the reigning conference champs and this year’s first-place team, the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley. The Blue & Gold women will be back in action again on Friday when they head to Chicago to take on conference rival Chicago State.
