Chancellor Morton and students appear in UMKC’s new campaign

Great things happen in America’s cities. And in Kansas City, it all starts at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Hear some of those students explain what brought them to UMKC in the university’s new video series, “Choose UMKC.”

Adrianne M. Calumpong, a sophomore Nursing major

1. Why did you choose to attend UMKC?

UMKC is close, yet far enough away from home. Also, I chose UMKC because of its School of Nursing.

2. What do you appreciate most about your time at UMKC so far?

I appreciate the fact that even though UMKC is a fairly large university, it still has a small feel to it. For example, it’s easy to get to know the administrative staff and your professors.

3. What are your plans for after graduation, and how is UMKC helping to prepare you?

My plan is of course to find a job in Nursing, but to also look into graduate programs, as well. I have done some research online about UMKC’s MSN program, and I am very interested in it.

 

Fabian Gonzalez, a sophomore Secondary Education and Chemistry major

1. Why did you choose to attend UMKC?

I chose to come to UMKC because of a Trustees’ Scholarship, UMKC’s proximity to home and the awesome campus.

2. What do you appreciate most about your time at UMKC so far?

I appreciate the friendships and connections that I have made with students and professors. I also appreciate the opportunities to become involved as a leader.

3. What are your plans for after graduation, and how is UMKC helping to prepare you?

I plan on teaching at a high school after UMKC, and UMKC is helping by giving me experience and by giving me a great education, especially in the sciences.

 

Jaqueline Preciado, a junior Elementary Education major

1. Why did you choose to attend UMKC?

I chose UMKC because it gave me the most financial aid, the best location, and it had a great School of Education.

2. What do you appreciate most about your time at UMKC so far?

I appreciate the resources that help students succeed, the student-to-faculty ratio and the memorable moments I’ve had getting involved on campus.

3. What are your plans for after graduation, and how is UMKC helping to prepare you?

My plans after graduation are to teach at an inner-city elementary school and create programs for less fortunate students.

 

Donald Reeves, a senior majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance

1. Why did you choose to attend UMKC?

I chose UMKC because of the excellent business program that’s offered through the Bloch School. The location also was a deciding factor, because UMKC is only a three-and-a-half-hour drive from my hometown of St. Louis.

2. What do you appreciate most about your time at UMKC so far?

I appreciate UMKC for the overwhelming networking opportunities that it has provided me. Through networking on campus, I have had the opportunity to meet peers who will become tomorrow’s leaders and mentors who will always be there to help me reach my full potential in everything I do.

3. What are your plans for after graduation, and how is UMKC helping to prepare you?

After graduation, I plan on continuing my education by pursing my JD and MBA. I believe that UMKC has prepared me for corporate America and graduate school, through the education and real-life scenarios that I have learned from inside and outside the classroom. The business school really emphasizes team building and developing leaders to create change.

 

Amra Suljic, a junior Communications Studies major with an emphasis in Pre-Law

1. Why did you choose to attend UMKC?

I was interested in the accelerated program (90+ program) to get into the UMKC School of Law, and I liked the size of the university and location.

2. What do you appreciate most about your time at UMKC so far?

I appreciate all the opportunities that I have been given at UMKC. I have been able to get involved with many great organizations and activities, and meet some of the best people I know. The staff at UMKC is amazing, and has helped me achieve many of my college goals.

3. What are your plans for after graduation, and how is UMKC helping to prepare you?

I plan on attending law school after I graduate from the UMKC College of Arts and Sciences. UMKC has helped me make many connections that will help me throughout my law career, and has given me all the tools I need to be a successful law student.
