UMKC Friends of the Library hosts annual celebration April 19
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – UMKC Friends of the Library will host its 46th annual celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19 at Boulevard Brewing Company, 2501 Southwest Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. Artist and entrepreneur Peregrine Honig will present “BOUND: a conversation about art in multiples,” discussing the effects of technology on art, media and audiences.
Ticket prices for Friends of the Library members and UMKC students are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Ticket prices for guests are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Tickets can be purchased here or at the event. Additional tickets are $10 each, and one raffle ticket is included in the price of admission. The raffle winner will be announced at the event and will receive a copy of Honig’s “Widow,” a limited-edition magazine valued at $700.
“I’m excited about this year’s event because our speaker, Peregrine Honig, is a nationally-known artist with thought-provoking ideas, and many creative interests,” said Jeanine Cobler, UMKC Friends of the Library board vice president. “Her limited edition magazine, ‘Widow,’ is an innovative work, and we are proud that soon, thanks to the UMKC Friends of the Library, the UMKC Libraries will be the only library in the Midwest with a copy of this work.”
A 2010 finalist on Bravo TV’s “Work of Art,” Honig’s work is included in the permanent collections of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC; the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York; and in several other galleries across the U.S. In Kansas City, Honig owns Fahrenheit, an alternative exhibition space, and Birdies, an independent lingerie boutique.
“I enjoy giving lectures and showing my work in alternative settings,” Honig said. “Celebrating literature and experiencing a speaker in a casual space with beer and snacks appealed to me. Preparing my lecture and organizing my ideas for ‘Bound’ has been fun because the final environment is relaxed and easy. The talk is a great way for me to explain the process of ‘Widow,’ an important project in my creative life. I am honored to have ‘Widow’ in the UMKC permanent collection and excited to share my concepts behind it.”
