Jonathan serves as the Assistant Director for LGBTQIA Programs & Services in the Office of Student Involvement. Jonathan joined the OSI staff in September 2012 and has helped increase UMKC’s commitment to gender and sexual diversity programming through inclusive policy practices, enhanced involvement opportunities, and scholarship support for UMKC’s LGBTQIA+ community.
While at UMKC, Jonathan completed his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from the University of Missouri in Columbia. His research explores university campus climate and staff leadership, specifically focusing on how institutions support LGBTQIA populations in higher education. His research has been published in a number of professional journals, including the Journal of College Student Development, the Journal of Student Affairs Research & Practice, the College Student Affairs Journal, and the Journal of LGBT Youth.
Originally from Columbus, Kansas, Jonathan attended the University of Kansas where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies and Religious Studies. Jonathan held his first position in student affairs at Northern Kentucky University, where he provided support to their University Housing Operations team. After a short time in Kentucky, Jonathan completed his Master’s in Education, also from Mizzou’s ELPA program, where he provided advisement and support to the Student Union Programming Board in the Missouri Student Unions.
In his free time, Jonathan loves to explore and read LGBTQIA history, find new music to listen to, go for a jog, or catch up on the latest tv shows with his husband Rishad and two cats Sushi and Stewie.
