Exchange 2010 Upgrade for Faculty and Staff Mailboxes Starts December 28th

Beginning on December 28th, UMKC faculty and staff email boxes will be migrated to Microsoft Exchange 2010. We’ve put together some important information you need to know about the migration.

What you need to know about the migration:

  • The migration will begin on December 28th and run for several days until all UMKC mailboxes are migrated. The length of this process has varied across each campus, but we anticipate UMKC’s migration to be less than a week.  IS will post information on the website when the process has completed.
  • During the migration, you may experience a brief interruption in email access while your mailbox is being moved.  If you experience an instance where you cannot access your mailbox, simply try again in 30 minutes.
  • For webmail users, you may be prompted to enter you login credentials twice during the migration period until your mailbox is migrated.
  • For mobile device users, you may need to reconfigure you mobile device to reflect new server settings (webmail.umkc.edu).  Some devices will change automatically; others will need to be reconfigured.  For detailed instructions see the mobile device setup information on the IS website.
  • For POP and IMAP users, you will need to point email clients to pop.umkc.edu or imap.umkc.edu once your mailbox is migrated.

After the migration, your mailbox will have the following improvements:

  • Fifteen gigabytes (GB) of storage verses the 2 GB you have today.
  • Other features include the addition of an out-of-office banner at the top of messages you draft to other Exchange users, a new and improved view of Outlook Web Access for Firefox users, and new shared calendar views, among others.
