If a picture is worth a thousand words, then the photographs UMKC students brought back from studying abroad during the 2017-2018 academic year speaks volumes about their life-changing experiences. First and second place finalists were selected by a panel of judges in each of the four categories; Landscapes, Portraits, Cross-Cultural Moments, and Roo Pride. First place finalists won a $75 Amazon gift card and second place finalists won a $25 Amazon gift card. See the full contest guidelines for details.

This is Donut, the two-toed sloth. We met this cutie at a wildlife refuge in Quepos, Costa Rica. Unfortunately Donut was electrocuted on a power line and lost the ability to use his back legs. However, the team at the refuge are working hard to hopefully get his legs working again. At the refuge, a team of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, wildlife biologists and tons of volunteers work to rehabilitate and release Costa Rican wildlife back into the wild at Manuel Antonio National Park. I learned so much more than just wildlife veterinary medicine here and I would not trade my time here for the world. As they say in Costa Rica, pura vida!
