We heard you, and your input informed UMKC’s new strategic plan. The plan states that our foundational commitment is to our people, and we have committed to creating a developmental culture and a learning community. As we begin the work of transforming our culture, we are happy to announce the roll-out of a new program for our campus community – Talk It Up!
This spring, we launched Talk It Up! for all supervisors with staff direct reports. Beginning June 11, we will have a schedule of sessions for all UMKC employees. The goal of this program is to foster a collaborative, team environment. The program introduces tools to explore goalsetting, ideas to make one-on-one meetings more productive, and support a process for quarterly feedback and development conversations between staff and their supervisors.
Talk It Up! is an interactive workshop where you will learn how to share feedback and engage in developmental and coaching conversations. Constant and open communication is a foundational skill in any relationship and a collaboration skill for creating a learning-centered environment for all. We will practice the GROW model for developing goals and practice communication skills using the STATE model. Talk It Up! is a judgement-free zone to learn, collaborate, and develop.

- Discuss importance of having two-way, people centered dialog.
- Apply the GROW model to your own development.
- Explore ideas for coaching self and others for success.
- Practice the STATE model to improve feedback and development conversations.
