Webinar: Promoting Diversity on University Search Committees

As an institutional member of HERC, our campus receives access to free professional development webinars led by national experts. HERC webinars are SHRM and HRCI certified and of relevance to senior leadership, academic affairs and human resource professionals, and anyone committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

On Thursday, May 18th, 2017 at 12:0110PM employees will be able to attend Search Advocates- Promoting Diversity and Mitigating Bias on University Search Committees.

Get an inside look at the OSU Search Advocate Program that was profiled in the cover article of the 9/11/16 edition of the Chronicle of Higher Education: “How to Do a Better Job of Searching for Diversity.” ​Oregon State University Search Advocates are outside committee members trained to enhance diversity, validity, and equity on university searches. Search Advocates complete an initial workshop series addressing current research, theory, and practical strategies for working with search committees from position development through integration of the new hire. ​Presented by Anne Gillies, Director of Oregon State University’s Search Advocate program since its inception in 2007.

Search Committee Training Dates for Spring 2017

Search committees play an integral role in the recruitment and retention of many faculty and staff positions. The positive outcomes of a successful search committee include the potential to increase diversity within our faculty and staff and ensure that we welcome the best and brightest to our university community.

Search Committee Training is an annual requirement for all individuals (including external committee members) who serve on a search at UMKC.
Search Committee Training includes the following modules:

Module One: Diversifying the Academy

Module Two: Search Committee Essentials
