Search Committee Training Dates for Spring 2020

Search committees play an integral role in the recruitment and retention of many faculty and staff positions. The positive outcomes of a successful search committee include the potential to increase diversity within our faculty and staff and ensure that we welcome the best and brightest to our university community.

Search Committee Training is required every 18 months for all individuals (including external committee members) who serve on a search at UMKC.

Search Committee Training is two hours and includes the following modules:

Module One: Hiring for Inclusivity

Module Two: Search Committee Essentials

Dean/Chair Training is also available upon request for your search committees.

We offer this course on the regular training schedule about once per month. This schedule is subject to change, based on enrollment.

We will also work with your committee to arrange training to fit your specific recruiting timeframe. For additional dates, please allow as much time as possible to arrange a date for your team.

Webinar: Equipping Search Committees

As an institutional member of HERC, our campus receives access to free professional development webinars led by national experts. HERC webinars are SHRM and HRCI certified and of relevance to senior leadership, academic affairs and human resource professionals, and anyone committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

On Thursday, June 15th, 2017 at 12:00PM employees will be able to attend Equipping Search Committees: Tools, Technology, and Training Essentials.

Successful searches start with equipping committees to do their best work through preparation and planning. During this session, participants will learn state-of-the-art approaches to building a professional and successful search, as well as tips and advice for advancing institutional diversity goals. ​Presented by Christopher D. Lee, Ph.D., SPHR, a leading authority on the search process. His first Search Committees book earned the 2001 Kathryn Hansen publication award from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR).
