Tax season is in full-fledge and it can be stressful to obtain all the necessary tax documents in time to file. While Human Resources is dedicated to serving each and every employee at UMKC, we are unable to provide tax advice, however, this article may help clarify what each document is and how to obtain them.
The 2017 W-2s have been produced in myHR for those who provided consent prior to 1/1/2018. If an employee did not provide consent, paper forms will be mailed to the mailing address on file by 1/31/2018. Access to the electronic W-2 will be available to ALL employees later in February.
Immigration Attorney Judy Bordeau of Bordeau Immigration Law LLC recently spoke at UMKC concerning the Executive Order instituting a travel ban for individuals from the countries of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. She discussed the implications of the travel ban and strategies for travelling internationally for the next 90 days and moving forward. On her website you can find information for individuals who will be travelling internationally and updates as changes to the Executive Order and related procedures occur. You can also find a copy of her handout from the talk below, which summarizes the most recent changes to the executive order issued on March 6, 2017 and the individuals that may be impacted by it.
A new page has been added to the Payroll and Records tab as a resource for departments and employees on procedures for issuing payments to nonresident aliens (NRAs).
This page will include general information on who qualifies as a nonresident alien as well as more detailed descriptions for payment procedures.
Departments will refer to this page for direction concerning hiring procedures, honorarium payments, scholarships, and prizes & awards. NRAs can utilize this page for information concerning tax returns, tax treaties, scholarships & prizes, and hiring procedures.

A 1099 tax form is used to report any kind of income you receive throughout the year other than your salary paid to you by your employer. Central Payroll in Columbia issues 1099 tax forms and they will be sent to your home address.
