Funded Internship in Central America with HALO Foundation

HALO International Research Ambassador Position Available: The HALO Foundation is seeking a qualified candidate to live and work abroad as an International Research Ambassador. The Research Ambassador will be expected to serve approximately 6 weeks in each Nicaragua, Guatemala and Haiti for a minimum of 18 weeks abroad total. The position will begin in 2015. The candidate will have the opportunity to apply for an extended Ambassador role upon the completion of the initial 18-week commitment.

International Research Ambassador Responsibilities:

  • Develop extensive research on Nicaragua, Guatemala and Haiti in regards to poverty statistics, high need zones, humanitarian aid/NGO presence and impact, long and short-term political climate, international policy, economic growth and change, and potential partner organizations
  • Communicate all pertinent information with HALO Headquarters on a timely basis, participating in Skype meetings with HALO Program Director on a minimum of a weekly basis • Create prospective home budgets and create funding accountability process, provide detailed updates to share with headquarters and donors
  • Actively participate in the recruitment of HALO staff and volunteers. Interview all prospective staff or partner staff residing or participating in the home(s) or other programming. Ensure all staff working with prospective HALO youth have gone through a background check approved by HALO headquarters
  • Form and maintain positive relationships with local organizations in partnership with The HALO Foundation
  • Assess growth opportunities through new programs and projects
  • Ensure that each home is in compliance with HALO standards
  • Evaluate processes and procedures for resettlement of youth residing in HALO supported homes
  • Research tools and software to track and measure program success
  • Observe and evaluate needs in the community and in HALO programs, identifying new programming possibilities on an ongoing basis
  • Create a report upon the completion of research in each country to share with HALO headquarters and develop a strategic plan for program development

Individuals applying for this position must be passionate about helping youth in need and poses strong leadership ability. Must be comfortable working independently and in a team atmosphere, highly motivated, enjoy brainstorming, and take the initiative on all projects. Strong writing and communication skills are highly pertinent. Experience working in the International non-profit sector is encouraged. Excellent opportunity to gain a variety of experience. Candidates should have a clean driving record, must pass a background check and must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Training will be provided.
