FFNHA Paid Summer Youth Camp Internship

Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area (FFNHA) is looking for a Summer Youth Camp Intern. The Summer Youth Camp Intern is responsible for assisting in the organization of the Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area and Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site Summer Youth Camp. The Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area Youth Camp is for 4th and 5th grade students from local Boys and Girls Clubs. These camps provide an opportunity to explore the themes of: Shaping the Frontier, the Missouri Kansas Border War, and the Enduring Struggle for Freedom through experiencing the cultural, natural, and historical resources in Freedom’s Frontier’s 41 counties in eastern Kansas and western Missouri. Freedom’s Frontier offers this camp to Boys & Girls Club students from the region. The intern position will work with historic sites and with Brown v. Board of Education staff to help facilitate curriculum, activities, and projects for the camp. This intern position places a premium on organization, research skills, communication, teamwork, and project management. This intern will work with students.

Job Details:
The summer youth camp intern will work from the Freedom’s Frontier office in Lawrence, Kansas to plan for the summer youth camp. During camps (6 weeks over the summer) the intern will travel with students visiting various historic sites in the Kansas City, Lawrence, and Topeka area. The start date for this position is negotiable, but must begin at the latest June 1st and will continue through the end of July (possibly into August). During camp weeks, the intern must attend camp (Monday – Friday 9:00 – 4:30). Interns should be able to provide transportation.
This is a paid internship. Any mileage incurred by interns will be reimbursed.
