We value what involvement brings to the student experience, but we also support the multiple ways students become involved with our programs. Whether you’re looking for networks of support through student organizations, interested in engaging in activism and social justice work, or seeking internship opportunities, you get to design what involvement looks like for you.
Our student organizations reflect the interests of our students. If you find that you want to create another LGBTQIA affiliated organization, we can help you navigate that too!
Peer Education & Support
LGBTQIA Programs & Services offers several opportunities for students to offer and receive support and education to and from their peers. These opportunities include Speaker’s Bureaus, an LGBTQIA+ Mentor Program, and Discussion Groups.
Volunteers & Interns
Volunteers and Interns are an integral part of the Rainbow Lounge and LGBTQIA Programs and Services. They help keep our Lounge orderly and friendly for all of its visitors.
Volunteering is a great way to support the UMKC LGBTQIA community, meet new people, develop skills, and have fun. Volunteers help establish an inclusive environment, welcoming all who seek support. We appreciate and depend on our volunteers as they provide an invaluable support to our LGBTQIA Programs & Services at UMKC.
Our internship program allows students to receive academic credit and gain real-world skills by working with LGBTQIA programs at UMKC. LGBTQIA interns can customize their focus based on desired experience. All interns receive weekly supervision, midterm, and final evaluations centered around their goals. Internships last for one academic term (16 weeks) unless otherwise negotiated.
LGBTQIA Partnership Committee
The LGBTQIA Partnership Committee provides valuable guidance and direction to LGBTQIA Programs & Services.
