Chapters and Councils

We have 12 Greek organizations at UMKC; 5 fraternities and 7 sororities are currently active on campus. They are represented in three councils with one independent organization.

Unrecognized Fraternities and Sororities

An “unrecognized” fraternity or sorority is one which chooses to exist “off campus” and does not follow University of Missouri-Kansas City policies and regulations or the requirements and policies of their governing council. In many cases, these organizations seem to operate like recognized organizations, but they are NOT affiliated with University of Missouri-Kansas City. These organizations do not have any of the privileges recognized organizations have earned.

UMKC cannot recommend that students join or participate in any sponsored activity by the listed groups. These groups have not met the health and safety standards established by UMKC for approved student organizations and are not accountable to any University policies or procedures.

The following organizations are NOT recognized or affiliated with UMKC:

Kappa Sigma Fraternity

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated

 

Collegiate Panhellenic Council

The Collegiate Panhellenic Council (CPC) represents the four Panhellenic sororities including Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Chi Omega, and Delta Zeta.

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) represents three fraternities including Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Phi Gamma Delta/FIJI, and Sigma Phi Epsilon.

National Pan-Hellenic Council

The National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) represents the four historically African-American fraternities and sororities active at UMKC including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

Sigma Lambda Gamma (SLG) is a multicultural  sorority that is not governed by a council and is identified as an independent organization at UMKC.
