Disability Week October 14-17, 2024
Disability Week spans from October 14th through the 17th bringing community partners and regional organizations to campus to discuss disability and celebrate the knowledge, creativity, and innovations born from our shared experiences. It features a standing art exhibit, performances, panel discussions, and workshops and works to make noise, initiate conversations and create community.
This year the Disability Alliance is thrilled to partner with the UMKC’s Division of Diversity and Inclusion to align its important objectives to our campus-wide reading program, Roos Read. During the 2024-2025 academic year UMKC’s students will read and discuss Disability Visibility (2020), edited by author and disability activist Alice Wong. Wong will deliver a virtual presentation to UMKC’s campus community on November 7th.
All events are free and open to the public with in-person and hybrid accessibility options. Please register in advance for lectures, panels, and workshops. The schedule will be updated as event details are finalized.

Show Me College: Inclusive Postsecondary Education for All in Missouri
10 am Discussion
Co-sponsored by UM Extension EDI council’s Fireside Discussion
Join this discussion and learn more about the growth of inclusive postsecondary education (IPSE) programs for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). In the United States, access to higher education is associated with higher employment rates and earnings. However, many individuals with IDD have not had the opportunity to engage in higher education, thus limiting their access to learning, networking, residential living experiences, internships/employment opportunities and lifelong friendships. Missouri is working towards improving access and building capacity to increase college and career opportunities for students with IDD.
