The 2021 Schedule is now available!
During this time, participants will conduct and receive comments from one of our Kansas City Conducting Symposium clinicians. Participants ($599, 8 rounds total) will conduct four times with the UMKC Conservatory Wind Symphony Chamber Players and four additional times in breakout groups. Auditors ($250, 4 rounds total) will conduct four times in breakout groups only. The observer track ($150, no conducting rounds) is designed for all other individuals wishing to engage in the symposium.
Special Topics/Afternoon Lectures:
These will feature UMKC faculty members and guest clinicians discussing their areas of expertise. Lecture topics may include music history, wind instrument techniques, or educational philosophy.
During this time, participants will focus on technique and musicality in a reduced teacher:student ratio environment for a more individualized experience. The breakout room chamber ensemble will be comprised of the symposium members. Symposium members will be expected to prepare chamber excerpts in advance. Members must bring their own instruments; UMKC Bands may supply larger instruments upon inquiry.
Each night, we designate a different local restaurant at which participants are welcome to gather and spend some time networking and getting to know each other. Restaurant locations and maps will be available at program check-in.
