Dates: June 13-17, 2021
After a successful online workshop in 2020, The Kansas City Saxophone Workshop is thrilled to offer this year’s workshop in both online and hybrid formats! All students will participate in clinics over Zoom throughout the week on a variety of topics from saxophone fundamentals and practice techniques to extended techniques and improvisation. Students choosing the hybrid option will come to UMKC’s campus for daily saxophone ensemble rehearsals that will culminate in a recording that will be included on the final Student Showcase Concert. Tuition includes one private lesson with the option to add on supplementary lessons for an additional fee. All students are invited to participate in optional master classes, attend faculty performances, and will be given an opportunity to perform a solo piece on the Student Showcase Concert at the end of the week. The Kansas City Saxophone Workshop is geared towards high school students (students entering 9th grade and graduating seniors are eligible) at all levels. An option to audit online workshop events is available for saxophonists of all ages.
All online Kansas City Saxophone Workshop events will be held using the Zoom platform. In order to have the best experience possible, we recommend the following:
- Laptop or desktop computer with a reliable webcam and speaker. A smartphone can work, but is not recommended.
- An internet connection with a minimum 1.5 Mbps download / 800 Kbps upload speed. A hard-wired Ethernet connection is recommended.
- If available, an external microphone will dramatically increase sound quality and will help the faculty assess students’ playing more accurately.
- A quiet, well-lit space where students can listen, take notes, and play their saxophones.
