Adult Classes


Most Fall 2020 Academy classes are postponed. Spring 2021 classes will be announced soon.

The Academy will have the below classes available for the Fall 2020 semester. Group Guitar will meet weekly for 45-minute sessions and adult UMKC Fall Piano Program students will be given ten 25-minute virtual private lessons. Courses begin after Labor Day for all classes. Adult Group Guitar is the UMKC Conservatory Academy’s class for beginners. This will be a fun and informative class that is open for all students age 16 and up. We will learn guitar skills for pop music accompaniment styles (not offered Fall semester).

Prerequisites: None
Needed Materials: Each student will need to bring their own acoustic guitar to class. Worksheets will be provided.


Digital UMKC Fall Piano Program (Bi-weekly)

Description: Students will receive 12 individualized online private piano lessons and participate in 4 online group classes. A bi-weekly option is available too. Lessons will focus on technique, harmony, theory, ear training, rhythm, and memorization. Students will learn in a fun and engaging way with songs, games, and creative discovery at the keyboard. Each lesson book includes audio recordings that offer a unique listening experience with songs in different genres – folk, classical, blues, and originals – accompanied by outstanding orchestrations and vocals. Parental participation is highly recommended. Note: Weekly spots are now closed, bi-weekly spots are still open.

  • Materials: Specific materials and a music list will communicated directly to students by the instructor.
  • Prerequisites: Students must be 6-years-old and older

Adult Group Piano I will give students the basic piano skills needed to feel comfortable navigating the keyboard, to read notes and rhythms and to understand basic music theory principles. Musical appreciation and how to apply concepts to learning pieces/songs will be discussed in an encouraging setting (not offered Fall semester).
