Adult Classes

The Academy will have the below classes available for the summer semester. All adult classes will meet weekly for 45-minute sessions and beginning the first week of June. Please click on the title of each class to see scheduled meeting times, instructor information, and to sign up!


Adult Group Piano I will give students the basic piano skills needed to feel comfortable navigating the keyboard, to read notes and rhythms and to understand basic music theory principles. Musical appreciation and how to apply concepts to learning pieces/songs will be discussed in an encouraging setting.

Prerequisites: None
Needed Materials: Alfred’s Piano 101


Adult Group Piano II will give students the basic piano skills needed to feel comfortable navigating the keyboard, to read notes and rhythms and to understand basic music theory principles. Students taking this class should have completed Adult Group Piano Level I or have 3-6 months experience.

Adult Group Piano III will give students the basic piano skills needed to feel comfortable navigating the keyboard, to read notes and rhythms and to understand basic music theory principles. Musical appreciation and how to apply concepts to learning pieces/songs will be discussed in an encouraging setting. Students taking this class should have completed Adult Group Piano Level II or have 3-6 months experience.

Adult Group Guitar This will be a fun and informative class that is open for all students age 16 and up. We will learn guitar skills for pop music accompaniment styles.

NOT OFFERED IN SUMMER.

Prerequisites: none
Needed Materials: Acoustic guitar, worksheets will be provided


OMNI Community String Orchestra The Omni Ensemble is UMKCs community string orchestra, offering playing and performance opportunities to all members of the UMKC community. Anyone with at least some level of experience on a string instrument is eligible to participate. Along with serving as a rehearsal and performance group, the OMNI ensemble provides music majors with the opportunity to perform on secondary string instruments, serve as mentors to developing musicians, and assist with rehearsals as needed.

Prerequisites: Students must contact the Academy Office to be placed in this class.
Needed Materials: Instrument, all music will be provided
