Nominations for our 2022 festival are now open!

Nomination Process

To be considered for the festival, all students must first be nominated by their school band director (private instructors may nominate if a student does not have a school band program).

We ask that directors nominate the students that are most deserving of participating in an honor ensemble (good players, hard workers, etc.). Directors may nominate up to twelve students in grades 7-8, up to ten students in grades 9-10, and up to ten students in grades 11-12. We accept students to the festival based on several factors, including the number of nominations we receive, the instrumentation that we need in our ensembles, and the information provided in director nominations along with each student’s video audition. At least one student from each nominating school will be accepted.

Important 2022 Update: Due to the size of the UMKC Midwest Honor Festival, we have decided to separate the Bands and Orchestras into separate events. This means moving forward the UMKC Midwest Honor Band Festival (formally, the Midwest Honor Band and Orchestra Festival), will now host band ensembles only. Information on Orchestra events will be out later this semester.

Nomination Dates and Deadlines

  • Nominations will be accepted through November 22, 2021 until 11:59pm. After this date, these forms will no longer be available.
  • All nominated students must submit a video audition in order for their application to be considered complete. Information on audition requirements and submission instructions are available on our Audition Video page. Video auditions are due November 29, 2021 by 11:59pm.
