Placement Video

All UMKC Honor Choir Festival participants are required to submit a placement audition video. This video will be used to help determine parts, sections and solos. 

Placement Videos are due by Friday, January 21, 2022.

Recording Notes (all students)
  • Record Separate Tracks for Song and Scale.
  • Be certain to record in the correct key.
  • DO NOT have students announce name, grade, voice part, or school since students are
    assigned a 
    Blind Audition ID Number when they are officially registered online.
Audition Repertoire for Grades 9-12, SATB 

Sing a one octave major scale at a moderate tempo, using solfege syllables forward, take a breath, repeat upper do, and return back UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys:

  • Soprano – F
  • Alto  – D
  • Tenor – Eb or F (choose what works best for the singer)
  • Bass – C, D, Ab, A (choose what works best for the singer)

Sing Dona Nobis Pacem at a moderate tempo, UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys:

  • Soprano – A-flat
  • Alto – F
  • Tenor – C
  • Bass – E

 Audition Repertoire for Grades 7-8, SA(C)*TB

      Sing a one octave major scale at a moderate tempo, using solfege syllables forward, take a breath, repeat upper do, and return back UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys:

  • Soprano 1 (High) – F
  • Soprano 2 (Medium)  – Eb
  • Alto (Low) – C
  • Cambiata (unchanged) – G or higher
  • Tenor (changing / mid voice) – Eb, E, F, Gb, or G
  • Baritone – A, Bb, B, C, Db, or D

Sing My Country, ’tis of Thee at a moderate tempo, UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys:

  • Soprano 1 (High) – F
  • Soprano 2 (Medium)  – Eb
  • Alto (Low) – C
  • Cambiata (unchanged) – Key of choice that fits within student’s voice part

  • Tenor (changing / mid voice) – Key of choice that fits within student’s voice part

  • Baritone – Key of choice that fits within student’s voice part


Audition Repertoire for Grades 4-6, High/Low 

Sing a one octave major scale at a moderate tempo, using solfege syllables forward, take a breath, repeat upper do, and return back UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys:

  • High – F
  • Low  – D

Sing America, The Beautiful (chorus beginning at “America, America…”) at a moderate tempo, UNACCOMPANIED in the following keys:

  • High  – C (beginning on G)
  • Low – G (beginning on D)
*Cambiata or changed voice 6th graders can opt to audition for the 7/8th grade ensemble.

  • Please read the above audition repertoire for detailed requirements

Tips for Recording:

  • Record Separate Tracks for Song and Scale.
  • Be certain to record in the correct key.
  • Record in a quiet room. Avoid a “live” acoustical room.
  • Do not use reverb or other pitch or tonal enhancements.
  • Avoid “helping” the student in any way. Give first pitch, then let student sing alone.
  • Record in designated key options for each voice part.
  •  Note tempo markings as indicated.

  • Option 1: YouTube (Preferred option) 
    • Log in
    • Click the camera icon in the upper right-hand corner
    • Select Upload Video
    • Follow YouTube’s provided upload instructions from here
    • Copy video link
    • We suggest you post your video as “unlisted” rather than private
  • Option 2: Google Drive
    • Log in
    • Upload Video
    • Open Video
    • Click the three vertical dots in the top right-hand corner
    • Select Share
    • A box will open that says something similar to “Share or “Share with Others“. In the top right-hand corner, select “Get Shareable Link or Get Link“. Select option “Can View” or “Viewer“.
    • If video requires a download or is from a school Google account, a box may appear that says “Share with people or groups”, “Share with people outside my organization” or “Restricted“. For this option, there is another box below it that says, Get Link. Change link type to Public or Anyone with link. Select option Viewer or Can View.
    • Copy Link
    • PLEASE NOTE: if you do not select the Shareable Link or Public Link, we will not be able to view the video. Any other link will simply take us to your personal Google Drive, which we cannot access
