Camp Questions

On-campus housing is optional. Participants are welcome to enroll for on-campus housing or to commute in each day.

The nearest airport to UMKC is Kansas City International Airport (MCI).  This airport is located approximately 25 miles from UMKC, and there are a number of shuttles and taxi services available to transport travelers to campus, for a fee (typically $30-$50 per trip)

UMKC Conservatory Summer Programs do not arrange any airport transportation; we recommend visiting www.flykci.com to plan your trip to campus.

There are two optional meal plans available to participants, or participants are welcome to bring their own lunch. Please visit the Meals section on UMKC Campus Information page for more details. Students will be chaperoned during meals.

All UMKC buildings are equipped with wireless internet. We will provide all participants with a guest username and password which will allow access to unsecured campus internet at no cost. UMKC Residence Halls are equipped with special secure Internet access that requires a unique username and password. Access to the Residence Hall WiFi will be given during dorm check-in.

For participants who will be driving to campus each day, we recommend purchasing a weekly parking permit. These permits are available for a $25 fee and will allow one week of parking in UMKC Student lots. To purchase a permit, please indicate so on your registration form. Permits will be available to pick up at program check-in. If you choose not to purchase a permit in advance, you may also do so during the week of your program by visiting the UMKC Parking Office.

Please note: Parking permits are good for UMKC STUDENT LOTS only, and your permit must be displayed at all times when parked in Student lots. Parking in UMKC Faculty/Staff or Metered Parking lots may result in a ticket, even if your student permit is displayed. Please read all signs carefully! UMKC Conservatory Summer Programs are not responsible for tickets issued.

Linens and towels (sheets, blanket, pillow, pillowcase, towels, washcloth) will be provided. Please note, the sheets provided include two flat sheets; if you need a fitted sheet, you are welcome to bring your own.

Summer programs are a great time for students to build new relationships with peers who have similar interests. We discourage rooming with a parent during this week. If you have questions about this policy, please call our office at (816) 235-2741.

Summers in Kansas City are hot and humid. University rooms and the dorms are air conditioned, but summer clothing is recommended. You may want to bring a sweater if you get chilly in air conditioning.
