The Conservatory Wind Symphony, directed by Steven D. Davis, is proud to present their opening concert at Helzberg Hall in the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. The program features Conservatory faculty Zachary Shemon performing Joel Love’s Solace, A Lyric Concerto for alto saxophone and wind ensemble. Shemon is a member of the lauded PRISM Quartet and enjoys a versatile solo and chamber performance career. Love’s music is the only two-time winner of the PARMA Recordings Composition Competition. Grammy nominated composer Adam Schoenberg’s Picture Studies was commissioned by the Kansas City Symphony and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. Schoenberg based this work eight works of art from the museum. The evening opens with Donald Hunsberger’s transcription of Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor, featuring the beautiful Julia Irene Kauffman Casavant Organ.
