A native of Novi, Michigan, Jen Hepp is currently pursuing her masters degree in Wind Conducting at the UMKC Conservatory under Professor Steven D. Davis. She is currently the Director of the Beginning Band for the nonprofit organization Harmony Project KC, which provides music education through after-school programming for students in Kansas City who have limited access to music education in their community. Prior to attending UMKC, Jen served as a band director in Houston, TX at Klein Cain High School in Klein ISD. During her time at Klein Cain, she served as the head director for two of the four concert ensembles and assisted with instruction for the Klein Cain Marching Band, as well as all other ensembles and aspects of the program.
Jen holds Bachelor’s degrees from Northwestern University in music education, trumpet performance and journalism. During her time at Northwestern, she performed for three years with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble directed by Dr. Mallory Thompson and was recognized as a Theodore Presser Scholar. She also performed as an associate member with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
Jen marched with The Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps in 2016 as the featured trumpet soloist. She served as a member of the brass staff for the corps for four years and is currently on the brass staff for The Santa Clara Vanguard. She is also on the faculty of the Crossroads Drum Major and Leadership Clinic, and is passionate about teaching musical leadership through conducting and expression to young students.
