The Department of Chemistry at UMKC offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Chemistry and is located in Spencer Hall and Flarsheim Hall. Our curricula provides a foundation for students across UMKC’s campuses in science and medicine.
Our department provides undergraduates and graduate students with an education that prepares them to excel in any professional or academic arena. We believe that a student’s success is not solely determined through excellence in the classroom, but it is imperative to gain “hands-on” experiences in the laboratory. In order to enhance our student’s experiences, we are undergoing renovation in the Spencer Hall to provide state of the art laboratory resources for all of our students.
Faculty members in the department carry out research in the traditional disciplines of chemistry such as inorganic, organic, analytical and physical chemistry. However, our faculty are also involved in interdisciplinary research fields combining chemistry with other scientific areas such as biology, pharmacy, computer science and engineering. The Department of Chemistry has faculty that is actively involved in research and is continually building strengths in interdisciplinary scientific areas, including medicinal and bioorganic chemistry, polymer science, material science and engineering, chemical physics, biomaterials and nanoscience.
