This prestigious honor has only been awarded twice before: to Henry Bloch at its inception in 2011, and to Hugh J. Zimmer in 2014. The purpose of the award is to inspire excellence and commitment on the part of all UMKC Trustees by periodically recognizing long-term, in-depth service to both UMKC and the UMKC Trustees’ organization.
The accolade is unique in that it is not distributed annually. Rather, it is bestowed as deemed appropriate by the Trustees. With Hudson’s extended involvement, she stood out to the committee as an example of the holistic engagement they want their members aspire to.
Hudson has been a member of the Trustees since 2000. In her tenure, she has led several strategic initiatives, such as chairing the Campus Life Trustee Initiative in 2006, a job she continues by co-chairing the Campus Environment Ad Hoc Taskforce. Hudson further remains committed by mentoring and leading enrichment sessions for Trustees’ Scholars.
In addition to her dedication to the Trustees, Hudson has received recognition for her engagement in the classroom. She was awarded the Bloch Favorite Faculty Member of the Year in 2010, 2011 and 2015, the Elmer F. Pierson Good Teaching Award in 2012 and the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2016.
