The 2015 Regnier Venture Creation Challenge began on Friday, May 1. Each spring, the Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation holds a business plan competition in which students can present new concepts to local investors, business leaders and entrepreneurs. Each competing team is also eligible for $55,000 in total awards and seed funding.
The event is divided into two days, with the first day showcasing the elevator pitch and expo sections of the competition. Over 50 qualifying teams were divided into breakout rooms in the UMKC Student Union, where one individual from each team delivered a two minute elevator pitch to judges. Following this portion was the Venture Creation Challenge expo, where teams set up booths representing their venture and spoke to judges and community members about their business model and upcoming strategies.
An esteemed judge’s panel made up of 40 local entrepreneurs and venture professionals submitted their scores to determine the 16 semifinalists that will participate in the next round.
