General Schedule:
The Baja Basins IRES is unique in that it is split between a January fieldwork intersession in México and a July summer laboratory session at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC).
Baja Basins IRES Calendar:
September 24, 2021: Baja Basins IRES application deadline.
October 1, 2021: Participants selected and notified.
October 4, 2021: Deadline for Contract of Participation.
December 28, 2021 – January 17, 2022: Intersession fieldwork in Santa Rosalía, Baja California Sur, México. Student airfare to Baja México and room and board/ camping while in Baja will be covered by the Baja Basins program.
February – June, 2022: Students do coursework at their home institutions. With the assistance of project leaders and mentors, students may continue to read literature on their research topic. Communication amongst participants and mentors will take place via Zoom and email. Samples will be sent for thin section preparation, geochemical and other analyses.
July 6 – July 30, 2022: Baja Basins Summer IRES at UMKC. IRES students will be housed in the UMKC student dormitories.
U.S. IRES Baja Basin Students will receive a stipend for the July session at UMKC.
