Local planning professionals joined Urban Planning + Design (UP+D) Program’s annual speed networking on Friday, March 10th. The professionals provided feedback on resumes of sophomore and junior UP+D students and also had mock job interviews with them. This annual speed networking event has been sponsored by the Kansas City Metropolitan Section of the American Planning Association to help our UP+D students prepare their internships and professional careers.
The Kansas City Metro Section of the American Planning Association and AUP+D hosted the annual Internship Fair on April 10th for planning students in the Kansas City metro region. Twenty two employers, the largest ever, participated in the fair this year. Also, more than thirty planning students from K-State, KU, and UMKC joined the fair.

AUP+D hosted the third Annual Kansas City Metro Planning Internship Fair on April 4th (Friday), 2014. The American Planning Association Kansas City Metro Section (KC-APA) organized the event with AUP+D and ten private, public, and non-profit organizations participated. Twenty six planning students from the University of Kansas and UMKC had opportunities to be interviewed. KC-APA generously offered snacks and drinks for a social after the event.
UMKC Urban Planning + Design Program will host a social for planning professionals, students, and their friends. We cordially invite everyone who is engaged in planning in our Kansas City metropolitan community.

This event is to promote interactions in our planning community and to meet new faces. Prof. Stephanie Frank is an Assistant Professor of Urban Planning and Design in the Department of Architecture, Urban Planning + Design. Dr. Frank is a planning historian who has expertise in the film industry. She received her doctoral degree from USC in 2013. Mr. Stephen Samuels is an urban planner and new Executive Director of Greater Kansas City Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC). He was former Director of Business Development at Economics Center at the University of Cincinnati. We would like to see more new faces in the event. We look forward to meeting you at UMKC on Tuesday, Nov. 12th!
Prof. Kim has been invited to serve a three-year appointment on the Committee on Accessible Transportation and Mobility of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies.
AUP+D hosted the Second Annual Kansas City Metro Planning Internship Fair on April 5th (Friday), 2013. The fair was sponsored by the American Planning Association Kansas City Metro Section (KC-APA). Fifteen employers from the public, private, and non-profit sectors and more than thirty students from Kansas State University, the University of Kansas, and UMKC participated in the internship fair. KC-APA and the Missouri Chapter of American Planning Association (MO-APA) generously donated food and drinks for a social after the event.
