Why Do I Need to Arrive at UMKC One Week Early?

All new students need to arrive at least one week before classes starts.

Before classes start, there are many things you need to do.
Some examples are:

  • Check in with ISAO
  • Take the placement test
  • Register for classes
  • Buy textbooks
  • Find your classrooms
  • Get your student ID card
  • Find your home
  • Get used to the time change
  • Set up your bank account if you are getting a new one in the U.S.
  • Figure out transportation
  • Go shopping for supplies
  • Get some sleep

Students cannot arrive in the U.S. more than 30 days before the start date on their I-20 or DS-2019.
Students must arrive in the U.S. before the start date on their I-20 or DS-2019. If you need to arrive after the start date, you must contact the ALI so we can send you a late arrival letter. Without a late arrival letter, you will not be allowed into the country after the start date.
