Anthem Student Advantage, working with University of Missouri – Kansas City, offers a student-focused health insurance plan. You get access to Anthem’s nationwide network of participating doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and specialists.

I have health insurance from home. Do I have to enroll in insurance through UMKC?

Are you are a non-immigrant international students with a F-1 or J-1 visa?
YES. enrollment in this Plan is mandatory and automatic when you enroll in classes.

Are you a scholar or participating in Optional Practical Training/Academic Training (OPT)?
NO, it is not mandatory. But, you can choose to enroll in the Plan using Anthem’s enrollment portal.

How do I get a copy of my insurance card?

When you arrive at a doctor’s appointment or any type of medical service, they will likely need information that will be on your Insurance Card.

You can digitally access your insurance card with the Sydney Health app. If you want a hard copy of your insurance card, call (833) 332-0798.

How do I pay for my health insurance?

The cost of the insurance will be included in your UMKC bill when you enroll in classes.

Are my dependents covered?

Family coverage is available but not automatic. You will need to enroll them using Anthem’s UMKC Dependent Enrollment page.

Eligible dependents are defined as spouses residing with Insured Students or unmarried children under 25 years of age, who are Missouri residents not covered under another plan. Dependents must enroll in the Plan when the student first enrolls or within 30 days of the date the dependent entered the United States.

Will the cost of health insurance for my dependents be included in my student bill?

NO. You will need to mail the correct premium directly to Anthem Student Health. Only mail the cost of the premium after you have deducted the cost of the F-1/J-1 student’s insurance.
