Iris Program

The ALI’s Iris Program offers students, scholars, or professors from any of UMKC’s International University Partnerships the opportunity to study ESL and/or academics at UMKC with a J-1 visa. Students in this program receive the discounted Kansas resident tuition rate of $333.80 per credit hour. In addition to classes, students will also participate in social and cultural activities and service learning opportunities.

Law School semester is for graduate students only and is 9 credit hours at the JD resident tuition rate.

Other Costs to Consider

  • Books for undergraduate coursework will cost about $250. Books for Law courses will be more expensive.
  • Living expenses will cost approximately $1,000 – $2,000 per month, depending on personal choices about where to live and shop and how to travel around the city.

    • Lunch will cost approximately $10 per day. The cost can vary depending on personal choices about where and what to eat.

To apply to the program, you will need to submit a bank statement. The amount required on the bank statement may be different from the amounts listed above. This is because the government needs to see estimated living expenses too.
