Congratulations on your admission to the University of Missouri – Kansas City! We are excited that you have selected UMKC to pursue your higher education goals. We look forward to welcoming you to Kansas City.

You've been accepted to UMKC. What are your next steps?

1. Admission letter

You will receive an email letting you know that an update has been made to your application status. A link in that email will take you to your application status page where you'll find your official admission letter. If you are (or will be) an F-1 or J-1 student visa holder, this is also where you will find your supporting documents for your visa application. (It may take a couple of weeks after admission before your immigration documents will be uploaded and attached to your admission letter.)

3. Check-in session

This step is only for students who will attend UMKC with an F-1 or J-1 student visa.

Once you have obtained your visa, you will need to pre-register for an immigration check-in session with our international advising team. Attendance at this in-person check-in session is a required first step once you've arrived in the United States. You will need to register for your mandatory check-in session and submit a copy of your F-1 or J-1 visa in order to enroll in classes.

Submit these documents before you attend your scheduled session

  • Final, official transcripts and certificates of completion, if they have not yet been submitted

Please arrive for your session 15 minutes in advance — late entry is not permitted.

4. Enroll in classes

After you have registered for your check-in session, you will be eligible to meet with your academic advisor who will help you select classes. Enroll in classes through your academic advisor, the Office of the Registrar or through your Pathway student account.

Undergraduate academic advising

New undergraduate students must complete a pre-enrollment survey in order to get enrolled in their first semester at UMKC. The link to this survey will be added to your Pre-Arrival Checklist within your application portal. For F-1 and J-1 students, this survey will only be available to you after you've registered for your check-in session and uploaded a copy of your student visa (step #3 above).
