Our final project was centered around the Valentine neighborhood and how we can help redevelop this neighborhood to thrive in the future.

My context board shows a few different perspectives. One thing I wanted to fix is Southwest Trafficway. My design is to reduce the driving lanes from six to four, two on each side, add a center-lane streetcar, add a protected bike lane and increase the sidewalks to make them feel more comfortable and safe. The main goal for this is to reduce car dependency and increase multiple forms of transit. I also have some photos that are examples of the type of housing and commercial units that are proposed for this area.

My site plan lays out the type of buildings I’m proposing for each space and the number of units along with the square footage. Along southwest I have a 3-4 story, mixed-use apartment that is designed to hold at least 100 units. Across from that are townhomes near the bottom of the street and above them are cottage courts. North of the apartments are six-plexes and the top right area is for retail and commercial space. My main focus is to provide a variety of housing for people to choose from that is also affordable.

The development is phased in three parts. First is going to be the townhomes and cottage courts along with the redevelopment of the streets. Second phase will be the apartments, six-plexes and commercial area. Third is going to be implementing the streetcar that will start around Penn Valley and run 1-2 miles south towards the plaza.
