North Valentine Mobility

The theme of my plan for Valentine is Mobility. Valentine has seen a decline in development over the years, with KC Life having bought up the properties and not done anything with the land. My plan is to bring new life to the area with the use of additional mobility options for residents, students, and people visiting the Valentine neighborhood. To achieve this goal, I looked into adding a mobility hub and additional housing options for people.

Major new additions would be placed around the neighborhood to help support the new developments around the mobility hub. This includes a daycare center near the mobility hub, along with over mixed-use development to be allowed for people coming and going to the school or to their homes in the neighborhood.

In addition to the mobility hub, New apartments would be built around the neighborhood and Low Income Housing Tax Credits would be used to help keep the units built affordable for the people that live in Valentine. There would be a total of 60 affordable units near MCC, then down in the center and along SW trafficway, there would be another 60 units, and at the very south end, we would be looking at a total of 200 market-rate apartments

There are additional changes on SW trafficway including to reduce a lane on SW to add in the streetcar lane and a buffer zone in the middle to for people crossing to be able to stop at. Additional paths were made in the neighborhood including a shared bike path that goes through the neighborhood to provide a path for residents to be able to go through. Protected bike lanes would be added to connect the paths back to the lanes on Broadway.

On phasing, it will start with the addition of underground parking and then move to above ground, with the aim of being completed by 2046.
