Volleyball faces off at Cougar Classic

UMKC Volleyball dropped a pair of matches on the final day of Cougar Classic this past Saturday with a 3-1 loss against Wright State and falling 3-0 to host SIU Edwardsville in the nightcap.

Sophomore Mykal Sadler was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

The Roos started with an early lead in the morning’s match 1-0, downing the Raiders 25-20. The teams battle for the duration of the set with 11 ties through the first 38 points. UMKC closed the set to take away the win with 6-1 run and back to back kills from Alex Ratzlaff.

But it wasn’t a lasting lead for the Roos as Wright State won each the next two sets 27-25 win, 26-24 win, and closing the match with a 25-18 win in set four.

SIUE lead 1-0 in a match against the Cougars with a 25-15 win in the first set, then extended the lead with Edwardsville 2-0 winning set two 25-19.

The Roos are up again this Friday as they return home for a match up against South Dakota at 1 p.m. in the Kangaroo Klassic.
