Local rapper, activist, and UMKC student, Royce “Sauce” Handy pairs his 3rd album, Summer Sauce with one of Kansas City’s most popular smoothie joints, Ruby Jean’s Juicery.

Both the album and its namesake smoothie were inspired by the freshness of summer. The “Summer Sauce” smoothie has been a best seller ever since.

“I wanted to have something different to go with the promotion of the album,” said Handy “and the owner, Chris Goode, was excited to support me in my idea.”

Ruby Jean’s is one of the hottest spots in Kansas City to stop in for a refreshing treat, for a quick lunch or to relax after a hard day’s work. Goode wanted to create a place where guests could re-energize with healthy options, including coffee and gluten-free snacks.

“The best thing about Royce as an artist is his energy,” says Jill Kemp, a local fan of both the artist and smoothie. “He really puts his heart into it.”

The most influential part of  Summer Sauce is Royce’s wife, Latanya Handy, who said the album is exactly about everything she represents. Mrs. Handy is also featured on the album as the narrator on songs such as “Pretty Lady” and “Summer Sauce”.

“This is some of my best work,” said Handy. “And an album to feel good to with your loved ones.”
