UMKC Senior forward Eric McWoods showed who rules Durwood Stadium in a 3-2 victory against UT Rio Grande Valley on Friday.

The UMKC Men’s Soccer team now stands at 3-3-3 and 1-0 in the Western Athletic Conference.

“We are really excited, it’s a good way to start the conference season,” said Head Coach Rick Benben. “Every team is good, every game is good. We have to be ready and do our best.”

The match-up did not seem promising in the beginning of the first half for UMKC, as UTRGV scored in the first 15 minutes of the game. The Vaqueros’ Juanito Ramirez, assisted by Ilias Kosmidis and Jaakko Hietikko, made a header inside the back post.

The Roo’s evened out the scoreboard in the 36 minute on a missed save by UTRGV goalie, Andy Rios, rolling the ball back into the right post 3 yards out.

The end of the second half proved an explosive one, as both teams fought hard to dominate the scoreboard. The Vaqueros established a lead, but the Roos came right back again in the 79th minute of the game with a corner kick from McWoods.

With less than five minutes left in the game, McWoods slammed his third goal with an assist from junior forward, Pandelis Popgeorgiev, to win 3-2 for the Roos.
