Freshman Courtney Frerichs added another title to her resume as she won the 3,000-meter run last weekend at the State Farm/ESU Relays in Emporia, Kan. Her time of 10:12.23 was one of four personal bests recorded by the Roos’ women in the event.
Junior Sarah Meiners (10:28.43) and sophomores Taylor Spencer (10:47.71) and Meg Doss (10:54.15) finished fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
In the long jump, Sophomore Jazmine Cooper placed second with a mark of 19-00.50 (5.80 meters), while sophomore Michelle Momo placed seventh with an 18-04.50 (5.60 meters) mark.
For the women’s throwers, seniors Denise Banda in the hammer throw and Kimoya Harriott in the javelin both achieved the third-best marks in UMKC history. Banda’s throw of 165-07 (50.48 meters) earned her seventh place, while Harriott’s mark of 142-11 (43.56 meters) placed her second.
In the women’s 100-meter dash, Momo (12.15) and Cooper (12.64) finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the final.
For the men, junior Cosmas Ayabei took second place in the 3,000-meter run as he finished in 8:22.52. Ayabei’s time was the second best in UMKC history.
Junior Daniel Mann (8:38.12), sophomore Dirk Hudson (8:39.58) and senior Brandon Leibold (8:40.56), placed third, fourth and fifth respectively. Junior Zach Mathias (8:45.27) and sophomore Alloch Burton (8:50.28) finished sixth and seventh.
The Roos will next compete in the KT Woodman Invitational in Wichita, Kan. On April 13-14 as they enter final preparations for the Summit League Championships May 10-12 in Fargo, N.D.
