Celebrate with Dr. Marita Barkis as she retires from Counseling Services

Dr. Marita Barkis, director of the UMKC Counseling, Health, Testing, and Disability Services, will retire on July 31, 2013. Come celebrate her retirement on Friday, July 26 in the Administrative Center, Plaza Room from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. RSVP directly to Dr. Arnold Abels at abelsa@umkc.edu.

Barkis first came to UMKC in 1979 and became the director in 2000. During her tenure, she led the initiatives to open Student Health and Wellness and the MindBody Connection. In addition, she provided expertise when working with distressed students and during campus and global crises. Barkis currently serves as co-chair of the Chancellor’s Diversity Strategic Plan Council and serves on various campus advisory teams, as well as risk management teams.
