Drums in the Night is UMKC Theatre’s Undergraduate Spring Production. Written by Bertolt Brecht and directed by Erin Merritt, the show will run April 5-14 in Studio 116 of the Olson Performing Arts Center.
About the play: A red moon, a ghost made flesh, and the primal drums of revolution threaten—or promise—to snatch Anna from her man on the night of her engagement party. Written to reflect the mood of disillusioned German troops returning from WWI, Bertolt Brecht’s comic drama Drums in the Night eerily foreshadows our soldiers’ reappearance after an invisible decade in the middle east to a nation divided by class, opportunity and outlook. Where is the returning son’s place in this jagged world, and which beat will he follow—that of the drums or his heart?
