Statewide Tornado Drill on Tuesday, March 5

March 4th, 2013 · No Comments · Uncategorized

[The following was provided by the UMKC Department of Environmental Health and Safety & Workers Compensation.]

All UMKC faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in the annual statewide tornado drill at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5. The drill will officially begin with the sounding of the local Kansas City weather sirens, notifications on the NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radios and an UMKC Alert! Emergency Mass Notification System message.

Participation is not mandatory and is fully at the discretion of individual faculty members with respect to classes and supervisors/managers with respect to staff. We recognize that the drill will be disruptive, but as a part of UMKC’s emergency planning it is highly recommended that participation occur where possible.

For more information on seeking shelter, emergency operations and severe weather safety, visit the UMKC Alert Webpage and the Missouri Storm Awareness Website. Students, faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with emergency procedures and shelter sites before tornado season begins. Consult your Building Liaison for more information.

Tornado safety tips are available at Missouri Storm Awareness  Preparing for a Tornado. Visit Storm Aware for additional tornado details.
