The Department of Sociology is sponsoring the first lecture for this semester in the Bernardin-Haskell Series at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, in the Fine Arts Building, room106. The free lecture is open to faculty, staff and students.
The featured speaker, Dr. Dave Ekerdt, Director of the Gerontology Center at the University of Kansas, will explore a framework for interdisciplinary research and action to promote human potential, productivity, and competence throughout the life course.
Housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, the Bernardin-Haskell Lecture Series has a dedicated fund to sponsor visits to UMKC by nationally and internationally known social scientists. Each year, the social science departments have an opportunity to request funds to bring one scholar to campus to present a public lecture on their area of expertise.
Reservations are requested by contacting Rita Hayes at (816) 235-1116.
