The UMKC Bookstore and the UMKC Health Science Bookstores are joining with other college bookstores across North America on Oct. 4 to celebrate and promote social responsibility during the second annual National Student Day.

On National Student Day, sponsored by the National Association of College Stores, the UMKC bookstores will celebrate the many UMKC students who improve the campus community through their selfless acts and volunteerism.

The bookstores will host activities and provide refreshments, offer a 25 percent discount on UMKC clothing and gifts and give free t-shirts to the first 300 students (200 on the Volker campus and 100 on the Hospital Hill campus).

Student nominations can be made on the basis of volunteerism and service to the community, and the winner will receive a $500 course materials scholarship from the UMKC Bookstores, which can be used on textbooks or required software.

To nominate a student, visit the UMKC Bookstore  and click on the National Student Day icon. The winner of the contest will be announced prior to the Homecoming Talent Show on the evening of Oct. 4.
