Lavender graduates recognition and awards 2012 is fast approaching

Lavender Graduates Recognition & Awards will take place from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. on May 3 in the UMKC Student Union Theater, with the reception in Room 402.  

The awards celebrates the achievements of graduating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Ally students and honors the contributions of LGBTQIA students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members.

Students who graduated in the fall 2011 or are graduating in the spring or summer 2012, from any institution of higher education and any degree are eligible to participate. RSVP to lgbtia@umkc.edu by April 19.

Participants will receive Lavender Stoles to wear during the ceremony and during their commencement if they wish. Friends, family members, faculty, staff, mentors and significant others are encouraged to attend to recognize the graduates and celebrate the achievements of the award recipients.

Lavender Awards Nominations currently are being accepted for numerous awards, including the Building Bridges Award, Outstanding Faculty Award, Outstanding Staff Award and the Jim Wanser Award. Complete and return the form to the LGBTQIA Programs & Services, Student Union, Suite 320 by April 17. Award descriptions are available on the attached Lavender Awards Nomination Form.

LGBTQIA Programs & Services offer sponsorships for the Awards 2012. As part of the sponsorship, your name will be listed on the program and UMKC LGBTQIA website. If you would like to become a sponsor, email lgbtqia@umkc.edu by April 17.
